Jamie Charlesworth – Senior Principal Psychologist (Books Closed)
Everybody has a story; within that story, we can all have difficulties and feel vulnerable, challenged, or lost.

Welcome to the web profile of Jamie Charlesworth, a registered psychologist with years of experience in helping individuals of all ages overcome their mental health challenges. As a dedicated mental health professional, Jamie brings a unique combination of education, life experience, and the lived involvement of working with disability. He has a deep understanding of the complexities of the human mind and uses his knowledge to provide effective solutions to his clients, drawing upon all disciplines of psychology.
Jamie earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Swinburne University, where he developed a strong foundation in mental health research, theories, and practices. He furthered his education by completing both an honours degree in psychology and a master’s degree in counselling from the Australian Institute of Psychology. Jamie is also a certified EMDR therapist.
Jamie’s areas of specialisation include trauma, autism, pathological demand avoidance, ADHD, schizophrenia, and dementia. He uses a holistic approach to therapy that considers the individual’s emotional, psychological, and physical needs. His gentle and compassionate personality allows him to connect with his clients on a deeper level, creating a therapeutic relationship that fosters healing and growth. Jamie’s approach is grounded in trauma-focused therapy, solution-focused therapy, and specialist behaviour support. He believes in empowering his clients to take an active role in their healing process and helping them develop practical skills to cope with their mental health challenges. He uses his insight to tailor his approach to each client’s unique needs, creating an effective and personalised treatment plan with a focus on working outside of the clinical environment, such as the client’s home, school, engaging in behaviour experiments in the community or even walk and talk through nature.
Jamie’s passion for understanding and helping people when they are struggling to cope is the reason he became a psychologist. He believes that mental health is essential to overall well-being and that everyone deserves access to quality mental health care. For him, being a mental health professional is an opportunity to impact the world positively. He strives to create a consistent, safe, and non-judgmental space for his clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours without fear of judgment.
In his personal life, Jamie values motivation and commitment. He sees himself as a husband, father, friend, and mentor, striving to bring his best self to each role. Jamie has dedicated his life to learning and adventures, travelling the world extensively. He held specialist roles with the British Army and is an active Rural Fire Service firefighter and a keen pilot. Jamie has completed treks worldwide, including the Pacific Crest Trail, Appalachian Trail, and Kokoda Trail. He has completed many ultra marathons, adventure races and motorbike expeditions, enjoying challenging desert, jungle, and arctic environments. Jamie’s son Isaac lives with cerebral palsy and is non-verbal. His use of a powerchair and eye gaze technology help him to thrive at school and at home and give both inspiration and insight into people’s life experiences when their circumstances are challenging.
